I think Daryl and Rick are both consumed with family. Rick his literal family, Daryl with the group that has become his makeshift family. I think Daryl would do just as much to protect Lori as he would to protect Carol or Rick or Andrea. Like he said in the barn, they’re HIS people now. They’re RICK’S people. Shane doesn’t see them as his and he’s willing to sacrifice people to protect what he thinks IS his. I think Daryl only does what he does because he’s been asked. Rick seems to know exactly what’s going on. If they hadn’t decided on that route, Daryl wouldn’t be doing it because he doesn’t act against Rick.
Agreed. Daryl isn’t sadistic. He’ll be goddamned if he sees another person he cares about coming out of a barn zombified. And my god, doing it in the same barn that Sophia was in, how prophetic is that?
